Become a Volunteer

Welcome to Niños de Guatemala Volunteer Program, there are many options you can choose from, national, international, short-term, long-term, volunteer groups, volunteer from home and Volunteer for a Day.

Volunteer with us and make a lasting difference in our childrens’ lives! NDG’s motto has always been that everyone can do something. Dedicated volunteers are key to our mission of breaking the cycle of poverty through education in Guatemala.

All our volunteers will live in Antigua and they will work directly at our office in Antigua, Guatemala or in one of our schools (2 primary schools and 1 middle school) in communities called Ciudad Vieja and San Lorenzo El Cubo only 20-30 minutes away from Antigua.

Your placement will depend on your volunteer project preferences and also your level of spanish, please take a look at our International Volunteer Catalogue.

International Volunteer Programs

  • Short-term: the short-term program at Niños de Guatemala will be of at least 4 weeks of time, and up to 3 months.
  • Long-term: the long-term program at Niños de Guatemala will be of at least 6 months, and up to 1 year.
  • Volunteer from home: volunteering is also possible from your home country. You can help the office in Guatemala in different ways volunteering online or being part of the NDG´s Ambassador Program which means that you are the face of Niños de Guatemala in your home country.
  • Volunteer for a Day: volunteer for an entire day at one of our schools from Monday to Friday.
  • Volunteer Groups: NDG hosts volunteer groups on a short-term basis, 1 week up to 3 weeks. The groups are of a minimum of 6 people who come to volunteer, learn from the Guatemalan culture and goes on wonderful adventures. Or download and read our Volunteer Group Catalogue.

Volunteer Requirements
  • Be flexible, motivated and willing to change children’s lives.
  • A positive attitude
  • An appreciation of new cultures that will help you settle in Guatemala and enjoy all of the new experiences;
  • Be 18 years old or older .
  • Commit to at least 4 weeks of volunteer work, and a min of 20 hours a week.
Cost of Volunteering
  • $50 application fee paid online at time of application (mandatory background screening)
  • Volunteer Support fee and other services (spanish classes, living arrangements, airport pick up and drop off and others)  which will depend on the package you will choose from the International Volunteer Catalogue, here you will also find information of everything that is included within the “Volunteer support fee”.
  • $250 donation for our 3 schools and 500 students, the volunteer team are very much willing to support you through the fundraising process, to help you get started, we’ve put together this short guide Fundraising Guide, and feel free to email us if you would like to know specific projects or needs that the school has. Many volunteers are able to raise 100% of their fees and donation—and there are many ways to do it!
