Randy McCool – Ambassador and Padrino

Currently, I am a practicing obstetrician-gynecologist in Arlington Heights, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.

I served as an obstetrician-gynecologist in the United States Air Force from 1987 to 1996 and then entered private practice in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I have been at my present practice location in Illinois since 2008.

Throughout my career I have always enjoyed caring for expectant mothers and I thoroughly enjoy delivering babies for a living. The community hospital where I deliver babies (Northwest Community Hospital) exposes me to people of many cultures on a frequent basis.

As a father of three daughters, one grown and two still in school at home, I am aware of the importance that education is to a child’s future. In 2014 I became personally interested in the well being of children from Guatemala and felt compelled to help them directly.

I learned that many children in Guatemala experienced hardships in their day to day lives, and that by being a sponsor through Ninos de Guatemala I could help a child on a personal level by becoming a Padrino sponsor.

My family and I have been thrilled to exchange pictures and letters with our sponsored student and to get to know her quite well. We celebrate her milestones and encourage her progress in school. She shares and expresses her thoughts in thedrawings she sends us. We are excited as she learns to read and write and tell us about her and her family.

Ninos de Guatemala receives my support because in addition to helping provide education for children in Guatemala, their mission also provides services to families and the local community.

We took a family trip to Guatemala this past summer and were able to meet with our sponsored student and her family as we toured the Nuestro Futuro School in Ciudad Vieja.

Having seen with my own eyes and heart the impact that my sponsorship had for this family in Guatemala, I wanted to do more to help Ninos de Guatemala by becoming an NDG ambassador. In this capacity, I am able to share my enthusiasm for Ninos de Guatemala and tell others of the good that it provides to children and families in Guatemala.

It is my hope as an ambassador to generate a number of Padrino sponsors in the Chicago area and to have more stories to tell about the children of Guatemala!
