Come with us on our Monterrico tour and discover beautiful nature, unique flora and fauna, and learn about environmental conservation efforts taking place in Guatemala. We’ll explore 4 unique natural parks: Finca El Zapote, Tortugario Monterrico, Reserva Natural Monterrico and Erhco Park La Aventura and see unique plants and animals, immerse ourselves in nature, and learn about these environments and the preservation efforts being done to save them.
Finca El Zapote
After a 2 hour’s drive, we will arrive at Finca El Zapote, a historical farm with quinine plantations & botanical gardens. This paradisiacal place with breathtaking views offers extensive gardens, lagoons, swings, horseback riding, swimming pools, water springs and much more. Here we will enjoy free time to explore all the Finca has to offer. After a lunch, we will transfer to the Pacific Coast.
After a 2.5 hour’s drive and checking into the night’s hotel, we will journey to Tortugario Monterrico, a space created by the CECON and the USAC that aims at the conservation and preservation of Marine Turtles in Guatemala. Here we will observe these beautiful turtles, see the organizations conservation efforts, and if visiting in June through December, have the opportunity to participate in the release of the baby turtles into the ocean. After touring the facility and seeing the turtles, we will enjoy free time at the beach to enjoy the surf and sunset before returning to our hotel for the evening for dinner and free time.
Reserva Natural Monterrico
We’ll wake up early to enjoy the nearby Reserva Natural Monterrico, a protected area that houses an abundance of diverse flora and fauna. The reserve is home to unique aquatic and floating plants as well as an extensive mangrove forest. The reserve also has a system of channels and coastal lagoons known as an estuarine ecosystem, since it has its own characteristics defined by the dynamics of the tides, with the mixture of saltwater and freshwater. Here we will take a guided tour to learn more about the unique plants and animals found in the reserve as well as conservation and preservation efforts.
Erhco Park La Aventura
After freshening up and breakfast at the hotel, we will transfer to Erhco Park (2 hours transfer – drive and ferry), a unique ecological and adventure park offering a variety of activities in a natural setting. Here we will enjoy free time to enjoy all the park has to offer including hiking throughout the park, a tour of their coffee farm and explanation of the process, a tour of the garden, horseback riding (additional cost applies), swimming in their natural pools, fishing (additional cost applies), and much more.
After enjoying lunch in the park, we will transfer back to Antigua (2.5 hours’ drive).
