Last week, our students at Niños de Guatemala came together to honor Guatemala’s 203 years of independence with a week filled with vibrant celebrations and meaningful learning. From the youngest students to those in high school, everyone embraced the spirit of freedom and patriotism with enthusiasm and pride.
Throughout the week, our students showcased their creativity by creating beautiful murals of Guatemala’s patriotic symbols, reciting heartfelt poems about the meaning of independence, and performing incredible dances that embodied the joy of being free. Every classroom was excited as students learned more about their country’s rich history and heritage.
The grand celebration took place on Friday with the much-anticipated “Placita,” a festive market day on which students wore traditional Guatemalan clothing and savored delicious local dishes. It was a joyful occasion that brought the entire school community together.
One of the celebration’s highlights was the marimba performance, which was extra special this year. Our high school students proudly took center stage, playing the national instrument with impressive skill and passion. Their performance stood out as a powerful reminder of the importance of tradition and culture, as they kept the sounds of Guatemala alive through their music.
As the day unfolded, the celebration continued with laughter and joy on the dance floor, where students and teachers danced together to the lively beats of Guatemalan artists. But the fun didn’t stop there! Before heading home, students from all grades united for a thrilling game of dodgeball, capping off a day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and national pride.
This Independence Day celebration was a wonderful experience for our entire community. It was a moment to reflect on our culture’s beauty, unity’s strength, and freedom we cherish. We are so proud of our students for their incredible energy, creativity, and dedication to making this celebration one to remember.
